What we fitted
A motorized retractable solar screen across the open side of the patio, running in powder-coated aluminium side tracks so the fabric stays put when the wind comes off the water. The frame finish was matched to the existing trim, so at rest the whole assembly reads as part of the roofline rather than something added to it.
The fabric
SunTex solar mesh, chosen for the balance between blocking heat and keeping the view down to the water. It cuts glare and surface temperature without turning the patio into a dark box, which is the trade people usually expect to have to make.
How it runs
Handheld remote, with the option to add a wall switch or tie it into home automation later. Down when the sun swings round, up when it does not. The motor and the frame both carry a lifetime warranty.
